The most exciting part of our week this week was finishing building the Wishtree as we continued to explore the learning intentions I can design a solution to a practical problem, and I can construct a structure and explain my choices. First, we looked at all of the bases that we had available and we talked about the advantages and disadvantages of each. Then we voted on the one we wanted to use. After that, we again got to choose which group we wanted to go into to solve the next design challenge. J.H explained: “Some of us did the branches and some of us did the base and hollows. We made the branches by cutting the bigger branches. Some of them we made holes for the branches to go in it to make a shape. We put it in the hole because the tape kind of does not really help that much. The hole held the branches in place so all we had to do was tape it together.”
After that Mrs. Cooper put paper on it to help with the asthetics. Asthethics means the look of it or the decorations. It now looks like a tree. And it is even taller than Mrs. Cooper. We played bucket ball in physical education. B.E explained how to play: “So when someone kicks the ball people have to grab a ball and pass it three times. Maybe they need to pass it a fourth time to get it into a bucket. The person that kicked the ball they have to run to first base, then to second, then to third and then back home. If the ball isn’t in the bucket before the person gets back to home their team gets a point and they can run around again. But they can only run around two times.”A very important part of our week was readig stories about, writing about and discussing Orange shirt day. We are exploring our bigger question, How can we celebrate differences in ourseelves and in others? This week we learned that before we can celebrate differences we have to understand differences and sometimes that means that we have to look at mistakes that were made by other so that we can learn from them. The most memorable part was our assembly put on by Room 10 and 12. L.S described it this way: “We
did our orange shirt day assembly on Thursday. We all had to sit in a circle
because that is important. It is like the medicine wheel. We also learned the
circle is important to Indigenous culture because in a medicine wheel it shows
the directions, the different seasons, the life cycle of people and it never
ends and shows that everyone is equal. My favorite part of the assembly was
when they took the song that the Indigenous artist wrote and the grade 1s and
2s sang it.”
