Happy Spring Break to everyone! Before we share a bit about our week, a reminder that the week of March 27-31 is Spring Break for the Calgary Board of Education so there is no school next week. This week was another full one however, the highlight of our week had to be Science! We finished our Leprechaun Launchers this week, being sure to use the design process:   When designing, building and testing our designs, the grade threes were working on being able to say "I can apply procedures to test different designs" and "I can identify and apply methods for making a structure stronger and more stable". The focus for the grade fours was to be able to say "I can construct models of levers and explain how levers are involved in such devices" and "I can use simple forces to power or propel a device" Both grades were focusing on the following process learning intentions: I can evaluate a design and make adjustments. This week we had a lot on the go with Pi Day, International Math Day, St. Patrick’s Day and our fish inquiry. In math, we started the week exploring circles, what “pi” is and relating that to our study of fractions. We also explored math in nature after reading an article about the Fibonacci sequence. We learned that number patterns can apply to plants, shells, pine cones and more. Then we explored the pattern and drew our own Fibonacci spiral. Also in math we are exploring the learning intention “I can compare and order fractions”. In writing, we are learning more about Humpback whales so we can better understand Blue-55 as we continue to read A Song For A Whale. Our learning intentions are: “I can organize jot notes under appropriate headings” and “I can understand the features of non-fiction texts”. Our fish are growing bigger and we spent the week making final observations to help us identify our fish. We learned about the key characteristics used to identify fish in Alberta and th

This week in Room 6, we spent a lot of time continuing to explore our question: “How do we celebrate diversity in others and in ourselves?” One way we did this, was with our continued work in Social Studies on exploring India, Tunisia, Ukraine, Peru, and Alberta through the celebration tables we are going to share next week. We did research on the textiles from these places and continued to connect what we learned to the natural resources and cultures in these areas. When we finished our research, we created paragraphs in groups so that we could make an audio recording of the information that we found. Next week, all of our celebration tables will be set up and we will visit each one and listen to the audio recordings that each group made. Another way that we explored diversity and acceptance was through our work in Wellness and Literacy. By understanding differences in each other and celebrating those differences, hopefully we can reduce conflict and misunderstandings. However, we
