June 4-8, 2023
What an exciting and eventful week!! So much happened for us
in Room 6 and we had so much learning!
On Tuesday the HAWCs helicopter landed in our school field!
We were able to hear all about it from the pilot, mechanic and police officer that works on
the helicopter. We learned that HAWCs stands for Helicopter Air
Watch for Community Safety. We also learned about how it flies, it’s top speed
and how much it weighs. We applied our “observing beyond the obvious” as we sketched
in our journal.
Another exciting part of the week was our guest Rugby coach!
We learned how to hold and pass a rugby
ball. We also played a lot of games to practice running, passing the ball and
protecting our flags.
We also have been doing a lot of watercolour this year in
art. On Monday and Tuesday we used a wet on wet technique to make beautiful dandelion
pictures that showed movement and applied the “rule of thirds”. We learned that
it is important to use this rule to make our art more interesting for the
viewer. We then put our artwork on display on the gym for the volunteer tea. (Sorry, Mrs. Cooper didn't take any photos of this, but you will be impressed when we bring them home!)
In Science, we continued our exploration of Light and
Shadows for grade 4 and Hearing and Sound for grade threes to prepare for our
sharing assembly. We won’t share too much about what we are learning about this
because we hope you are able to attend. Our sharing assembly will be this Thursday, June 15th at 9:30 am
in our school gym.
We learned so much more as well! As us about:
- Naming angles, how to use a referent to estimate the size and type of an angle, and what acute, obtuse, right and straight angles are;
- How to make characters in our stories more interesting by knowing their character traits;
- The sundial outside that uses light and shadows to communicate the time;
- Our Caring Acts helping clean up after the volunteer tea; and
- Our favorite part of the week.
Mrs. Cooper also wants to make sure that all parents are
aware that Friday, June 16th is Sports Day! Please see the separate
blog post about it for some very important information items!! Also remember to
ensure that you bring a water bottle, hat and put on sunscreen on Friday
morning! If you are able to volunteer on Sports Day, please email Mrs. Cooper.
Finally, have you heard? Our school has been nominated for a
contest to win $10,000….imagine what we could do. A big thanks to Clara
MacRaild, a Kindergarten parent, for connecting us and creating the video
submission. 50 schools will win $10,000 and the school with the most votes gets
another $10,000!
We can vote every day!
We hope you can help rally up support to get some votes in
our direction.
