Wow! Our days and weeks are going so fast in room 6! This week we continued to use our routines and organizational skills to support our learning and to be our best! We have math routines in place and have started word ladders and Spellie to support our word work.

In math, we used many materials, conversations and math routines to better understand our number system. We found patterns in place value and used them as a class to count all the way to 100 Billion! We are also continuing to explore how a number can be composed in different ways using place value. Ask us how many tens there are in 180.

Mrs. Cooper has started reading us Wishtree by Katherine Applegate. We have learned a lot about the two main characters, Red and Bongo. Ask us how we would describe them and who is an optimist and who is a pessimist. Red is a tree and the book described his leaves changing colours. To learn more about leaves changing colours, we are learning how to annotate a nonfiction text to help our understanding. Next week we will learn more about nonfiction text features and how to take jot notes.

In Health and wellness we explored how to move our bodies to make our hearts and lungs stronger. We also made heart maps to share with others the things that are important to us and to understand how we are each unique.

Mrs. Cooper also wanted to remind parents about our school council fundraiser. See the information below and also timelines in the important dates section of our blog.
