It was another exciting week in Room 6. Everyone wrote a paragraph about one event from the week focusing on the learning intention ‘I can use rich vocabulary, complete and interesting sentences to describe an event from this week’. You will see that our writing is really coming along! You will also see that we learned so much this week! (Mrs. Cooper is really sorry that she can’t post everyone’s ideas each week! She will rotate the writing of everyone as the weeks go on. If you want to see your child’s specific blog post, please email Mrs. Cooper and she can take a picture and send it to you.)

“Ever since we ended Wishtree, Ms Cooper found a new book called Song for A Whale. The main characters are Iris and Blue55. Iris loves to fix old radios. She is deaf. She feels the vibration to make sure the radio is working. Blue55 is a whale who can understand other whales but other whales can’t understand him." – A grade 3 student.

“This week Miss Baker taught us all about sign language! We learned how to spell your name and got a partner and practiced. After we learned to count one to ten it gets a little hard after five but I got the hang of it. Then I asked how to sign mom and dad so she did and also showed us boy and girl. She had to leave after." – Lillian

“This week we started to read a book called Song for a Whale! It is about a girl named Iris. Iris is deaf and she moved to a new school that she doesn’t like. We’re now learning sign language and we’re first learning how to do each others’ names. We found it a bit easy when we tried it out and this was also my favorite thing we did this week.” -Enayah

“On the first day of last week we saw a fish tank in the library and what we had to do is take detailed notes on what we saw in the tank. Then the next day we had to write what we think and what we wonder. After that 2 days later we had to number pages to 36! After that we went to the learning commons and we had to draw the eggs that came in the thermos, they were tiny. Also, they grew tails the next day!” – A grade 4 student

“My favorite part of the week was art because we’re doing watercolour paints! As you might know we are doing an inquiry in the learning commons. We are doing a painting of one of the organisms. We also had to do a techniques paper before we do a rough draft. Let me explain better. We are doing water colour painting of the organisms in our aquarium.” – Sebastian

In art we talked about different techniques of how to paint dots for our project in the learning commons. What it is, is we have living things in an aquarium. We don’t know what they are so we’re painting them. There’s lots of techniques like water over water, and dabbing if there is too much paint and others that I forget.” - Ellie

“We did how to paint with watercolour paint. We did diluting. Diluting is when you paint, we add the paint on the paint board and add more water. Then we did dabbing. Dabbing is when you add too much paint grab a paper towel and put it on it. Wet on wet is paint then add water then more water... That is how you paint with skill.” - Everly
