April 24-28, 2023

One highlight from our week was mission impossible. We took all of our skills that we learned in gymnastics and used them to move through the Mission Impossible course. During gymnastics we learned about controlled body movements, balances, working through progressively hard movements and trying difficult things. Specifically we looked at the learning intentions:

  • I can participate in risk-taking and adventurous play activities that promote well-being.
  • I can participate in physical activities that increase in complexity.
  • I can identify and implement personal strategies to overcome challenges in a variety of physical activities.

 It was also support staff appreciation week. We did a caring project where we made a small gift to thank all the support staff in our school. We loved delivering them and telling all our special school staff what we appreciate about them!

Another highlight was our work with Ms. Sharon. We were using spiral patterns in nature, particularly the Fibonacci sequence, as inspiration. We learned that spirals show growth or the reduction of things in a pattern. After exploring patterns we learned new pencil, eraser and drawing techniques to draw spirals from the sky, land and water. Ask us to show you some of our sketching techniques like “soft as a butterfly” or erasing to add detail rather than to get rid of mistakes.

And you know we did so much more! Ask us about:

  • ·         Solving equations with an unknown and word problems in math;
  • ·         Our walking field trip and the evidence of new plant growth that we saw;
  • ·         Our fish and how much they have changed, as well as their feeding behaviors;
  • ·         The animal that we have chosen to research and write about and what we learned;
  • ·         The “game” we are designing in social studies and what plan we have; and
  • ·         The best part of the week for us.

Mrs. Cooper would also like to remind all grade 4 parents that there was a notice that came home about our upcoming Wellness Unit: Changes in Growth and Development. All grade 4 parents had an email send about this unit. Please remember that you only need to return the forms if you do NOT want your child to participate, or if you want them to participate in a modified way. Please email Mrs. Cooper if you have questions. During this unit, the grade 3s will do alternate work with Ms. Bouchard, and when Ms. Bouchard’s grade 4s are working on this unit, their grade 3s will join us.

Another important announcement:  Lake Bonavista School is participating in netball from May 8th until May 16th in our gymnasium. This sport involves foundational movement skills such as jumping, running, throwing, and catching. As described on the Netball Alberta website (www.netballalberta.com): “Netball is an exciting, fast and skillful game of fair contest: It is a game in which two teams of seven players each strive to keep or gain possession of the ball. Players have specified areas in which they can move.”  Parent Council has graciously provided the funding to bring this event into our school.  Consent forms will be sent home with your child on May 1st.  Please sign and return the forms so your child is able to participate in this fun LBS event! Forms are DUE WEDNESDAY, MAY 3, 2023!

Finally, please know that we are still waiting on CBE to add the Ann & Sandy fieldtrip fee to your MyCBE account. Mrs. Cooper will let you know as soon as it is posted and ready for payment.
